Background
Dr. M.K. Randhawa, Optometrist, was born and raised in Vancouver, BC and continues to live in Vancouver with her husband and two young children. Her clinic is located in the Killarney neighbourhood of East Vancouver. When she is not spending time with her family and taking care of her patients, she enjoys cooking - her macaroni and lasagna are famous!
Education - Human Nutrition & Doctor of Optometry
Dr. Randhawa's education gives her a unique perspective in eye an vision health care. She has a degree in human nutrition from the University of British Columbia and a doctorate in optometry degree from Pacific University. Dr. Randhawa's education makes her uniquely qualified to advise patients on the impact of nutrition on their eye health and over all health. Nutrition plays a key role in the prevention and management of eye diseases like dry eye syndrome, macular degeneration and myopia.
Vision development, rehabilitation and vision therapy
Dr. Randhawa is a developmental optometrist and a member of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. She has undertaken a residency in vision therapy and advanced training in vision therapy and developmental vision. As a developmental optometrist, she is qualified to to diagnose and treat developmental vision problems such as amblyopia, strabismus, binocular vision dysfunctions, convergence insufficiency, depth perception problems, visual information processing deficits. She also conducts rehabilitation for vision problems resulting from head and brain injuries..
Leader in vision and eye care in British Columbia
Dr. Randhawa is a passionate advocate for vision and eye health and she is a leader in her field. She has appeared on numerous radio and television programs to educate the public on the importance of taking vision and eye health seriously. Dr. Randhawa has been seen on CBC Radio One, CKNW, RJ1200 and has appeared on television on BCTV, CityTV, OMNI News and Global News. Service to the profession and the community
Dr. Randhawa always gives back to the community. She served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia School of Nursing where she taught future nurses how to care for the eye. She serves on the board of directors of the Vision for Success Society - a non profit organization that helps students pursue their dreams of post-secondary education. She also served on the board of directors of the British Columbia Association of Optometrists and currently sits on the board of the Colllege of Optometrists of British Columbia.
Care and treatment of children's eye and vision disorders
Children are a practice focus for Dr. Randhawa. In optometry school she co-wrote a children's book called Iris Goes to the Optometrist.Her focus on children lead her to do a residency for specialized training in vision therapy and to become a member of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. Dr. Randhawa has the largest vision therapy practice in Vancouver where she treats kids for many developmental vision disorders including amblyopia, strabismus, convergence insufficiency, and vision related learning problems.
Orthokeratology and myopia control
Dr. Randhawa has one of the busiest orthokeratology (ortho-k, corneal reshaping)practices in Vancouver where she uses the latest eye-retainer technology to help people get out of contacts and glasses without surgery. Orthokeratology has also been proven to stop your prescription from getting worse and is the only proven method to slow or stop myopia progression.
